Info about Goldust
Goldust is a second generation wrestler. His father, "American Dream" Dusty Rhodes, is a former NWA world champion. So from the very beginning, Dustin had big shoes to fill.
Trained by his father and General Skandor Akbar, Dustin made his pro debut on September 13, 1988 against Bob Cook. He wrestled mainly in Florida, his father's old stomping ground, where he won the Florida State singles and tag team championship. Then in late 1990, Dustin got his big break as he made his way to the WWF. Known as Dustin Rhodes, his then-biggest match was a 10-minute draw against Ted DiBiase. Dustin teamed mainly with his father Dusty, and the two feuded with DiBiase and Virgil before both Dusty and Dustin left the company in early 1991.
Dustin soon reappeared in WCW. Known as "The Natural", he captured the WCW 6-man, tag team, and U.S. singles title. However, he was still unable to get away from the fact that he was the son of the legendary Dusty Rhodes. He had the Rhodes name, and his resemblance to his father was striking. Rhodes' career started to dwindle in WCW, and by mid-1995 he was gone.
Around late-Summer of 1995, the WWF began running ads for a new wrestler set to hit the company named Goldust. A few weeks later, w saw our first glimpse of this man as he began appearing in video clips. He wore gold face paint and a long blond wig. But under the make-up and hair was the same Dustin Rhodes. He debuted in the fall of '95 at IYH against Marty Jannetty, and went on to an impressive win over Bam Bam Bigelow at the Survivor Series of '95, thus earning himself a shot at the Intercontinental title.
On January 21, 1996, Goldust (along with his new manager Marlena) defeated Razor Ramon to capture the IC title at the Royal Rumble. He held the title for three months before taking part in a match against Savio Vega on Raw that ended in controversial fashion. The title was held up, but Goldust won the rematch to reclaim the title. He then lost it at Summerslam '96 to Ahmed Johnson.
In late 1996, Goldust became the subject of a series of interviews by Jim Ross. Goldust's past was discussed; his childhood as Dustin Runnels; to his career as Dustin Rhodes; to his decision to become Goldust to gain individuality from his legendary father. It became public that his manager Marlena was his real-life wife, and the two had a daughter; Dakota. Goldust then started hearing the cheers of the fans.
In the fall of 1997, Goldust began a feud with Brian Pillman. During this feud, Dustin lost the services of Marlena to Pillman for thirty days. During this thirty day period, Goldust reportedly met somebody new, and after a brief reunion between he and Marlena, Goldust broke up his relationship with her and introduced his new manager, Luna Vachon. Goldust has since became more bizarre than ever before, taking on the name "The Artist Formerly Known As Goldust".
