Info about Ken Shamrock:
Who would have thought that an accomplished shoot fighter would become a top star in the World Wrestling Federation? Trained by his father Bob Shamrock (in shootfighting) along with Boris Malenko, Gene Anderson and Nelson Royal (wrestling), Shamrock became famous by doing what he does best. Before that however, and what is unbeknownst to many people, Shamrock had a brief wrestling career a few years ago, known as Vince Torelli.
It was shoot fighting however where Shamrock excelled. He joined the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC), and participated in their violent, no-hards-barred events that take place in octagon-shaped rings. Shamrock's strength, stamina and quickness were unmatched by most, and his record was indicative of that. He had a record of 13-2 in the Pancrase Assocation, 10-1 with the Fujiwara Gumi promotion, and 5-1-2 in the UFC. Along the way, he defeated Dan Severn to win the first ever UFC Superfight Title.
After suffering a hand injury, and with his family wishing for him to get out of the violent environment that is the UFC, Shamrock signed with the WWF in the Spring of 1997. He was promptly challenged by Vader, and the two battled at In Your House: Cold Day in Hell, with Shamrock victorious. As a result of this battle, Vader suffered a knee injury and a broken nose.
Shamrock continued to steamroll the opposition, and in August of 1997 at Summerslam he challenged the British Bulldog for the European title. Despite coming out without the gold, Shamrock dominated the Bulldog and left him laying in the ring.
Ken Shamrock's skills continue to improve with each match. He has added aerial wrestling to his powerful and submissive style, mastering the huracurana. His talents and record even earned him a shot at the WWF championship ( held by Shawn Michaels) at December's IYH.
